Need some hair and beauty inspiration to go with your NYE outfit? Bon magazine have some great ideas in their A/W 2011/12 issue, including cinematic glamour up-dos, retro kitsch twists and contemporary oriental masterpieces, all styled with a crisp white shirt and a heavy sweep of eyeliner.

Option 1: The party shirt
The female equivalent of the male party shirt, which men favour for cruising the town on Saturday nights in the hope of picking up women. The female version however, is much more sophisticated and a lot less contrived. This bottle green shirt at Topshop has a contrast jet black collar and placket and is covered in beautiful beaded embellishment. Equipment’s star print silk shirt is similarly brilliant and would look perfect paired with this studded and quilted leather mini and velvet slipper shoes, both from Topshop.
Option 2: The Shirt Dress
If New Years Eve just does not feel like New Years Eve without a dress, meet me halfway with a shirt dress. I love Whistles’ elegant black shirt dress with gold chain trimmed collar and cuffs, while Cos’ shift dress with contrast collar has a 60s Mod feel about it, which would look great worn with these studded brogues from Topshop.
Option 3: The Tux
The Tux is the fail-safe, fall-back option which guarantees you to stand out and nail androgynous styling. It has that nonchalant and laid back air which looks particularly effortless on a night like New Years Eve. It is also a little quite fun to look better than men in something which is historically exclusively theirs. Wear Tuxedo jacket and trousers together with a classic white shirt and killer heels like at ASOS, or wear as separates like this white Maison Scotch jacket if you don’t want to go all out (try a party shirt with Tux trousers, or Tuxedo jacket over a shirt dress). Snakeskin is having a moment, and this Stella McCartney clutch with neon pink piped edges is the perfect paired with a monochrome Tux.
Everyone is jumping on the Tumblr bandwagon right now. Not just the fashion bloggers (including whatshisisyours.com- check it out here), but also the fashion brands, likeRag & Bone. Rag & Bone are the perfect New York denim brand: authentic, hip and seen on the coolest of style icons. To launch their Tumblr page, they enlisted the help of the best fashion bloggers and models, such as Mirander Kerr, Lily Aldridge and Hanneli Mustaparta to showcase pieces from Rag & Bone’s /JEAN range. I love Hanneli’s series including coated denim skinny jeans, a navy baseball jacket and a classic white tee. With the ethos being ‘just a girl and her camera’, this is a great campaign capturing the downtown cool of Rag & Bone.

Really like this front-split ankle detail on jeans at the moment. Cheap and easy to DIY, this works best on straight and bootcut trouser shapes. It’s also the perfect way to show off awesome shoes.
Simple denim styling by Stonefox magazine. The make-up free face and loose hair really adds to the boyish look.
